Being a kid myself I would like to point out that I belive this is the rebeluos age.

When you tell your teenage daughter ‘this conversation is over’, the conversation isn’t over.
He could teach her defense spells though. It’s unlikely she’d get powerful enough quickly enough to hold her own against Derik anyway.
Make sure she doesn’t know how to defend herself. It’s the best way to be sure she won’t. If only trouble didn’t tend to seek out those lacking power.
Oh good call, bad shit happened in the past and is now happening and will happen in the future so the best course of action is to leave your child ignorant of how to defend themselves now or in the future. Prevent that learning so she can be a useful victim when life happens in the future as well as right now, it’s the EMO way!
